Elevator

This is a photo I snapped of my students as they were going downstairs in the elevator to our school. I really like it. I feel like it has…. momentum.

Photographers of Heian

I have certain things that fascinate me, and perhaps taking pictures of other photographers is one of them. Maybe it’s a healthy respect for the relationship between photographer and subject that makes that relationship so interesting to photograph. Perhaps it isn’t as interesting for someone not interested in lugging around a camera, but I like the dynamics of this picture none the less.

Painter

This is a painter in the botanical garden in Kyoto. When I asked if I could take his picture, he responded only with a curt nod. I especially like the quality of the bokeh behind him, though.

Luke and Hiroko

This was another portrait I took (the day after Abandon) of Luke and Hiroko, as we walked to Himeiji Castle from the station. I might not even have been looking through the viewfinder — sometimes I just like to shoot from the hip.

Grilling

Another post that harkens back to the halcyon days before I acquired a DSLR. This is from a night market in Taiwan, a place that is bursting at the seams with food stalls, silly carnival style games (I played a ‘pop the balloons’ game that used a full on bow and arrow instead of darts) and cheap goods for sale. This was, I believe, taken at our last stop — a ‘stinky tofu’ restaurant. As my friends stuffed themselves with the vile smelling curd, I looked over into the next stall and took this of the neighbors grill. I like it.

Into the Light

I don’t know this child, it was a candid shot I snapped while he kicked past. These days, I’m taking multiple pictures of a single shot, to make sure I get a good one. This one, I only had time to take one. I’m glad it turned out.
